The Windows 10 compresses your Wallpapers , but you can leave – them with the high quality again

By default Windows 10 compresses JPEG images as one as your computer wallpaper to something around 85{890c36218bbc94bcbe8f5d159f212155cbf0c932418a12ec06828c4a996999c1} of the original quality. For the vast majority, this makes no difference in your day to day life. However, some users are bothered to look at their beautiful images with inferior quality when they were placed as wallpaper.

We do not know for sure why Windows 10 compresses the wallpapers. Sure, it’s not a matter of storage, it might have more to do with the synchronization of PCs that share the same Microsoft account. However, wallpapers are not too large to need this function just for an eventual sync.

Let’s now see how to disable this compression

Disabling compression of Windows 10 wallpapers

To disable the compression of the Windows 10 wallpapers, you have to make a change to the Windows registry.

Warning: The Windows Registry Editor is a powerful tool. Misuse of it may make your computer unstable or inoperable. The procedure we are going to do is very simple. If you follow exactly the step by step there should be no problem.

The first process is to open the Windows Registry Editor. To do this, press the Windows keys and type ” regedit “.

In the Registry Editor use the left sidebar to navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop

Now you will create a new value inside the Desktop key. To do this, right-click an area on the arm and select New> DWORD (32-bit) value. Place this JPEGImportQuality name  as the name of the value.

Now double-click on the value you just created. A box will appear and you should configure it as follows: on the base, check the Decimal option  In the Value data field, enter a value between 60 and 100, where 100 is the maximum image quality. Once everything is ready, click Ok .

For the change to take effect, you will need to restart your computer and set a new image as wallpaper. Any image that you set from now on as background will not receive any compression.
